
~ ‘Sports Meet’ at AYJNISHD(D) to nurture the sporting talents of children with disabilities~
Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan) [AYJNISHD(D)] is launching a ‘Sports Meet’ for children with disabilities on 3rd December 2024. This ground-breaking initiative aims to nurture the sporting talents of children with disabilities and celebrate their achievements.
This event is part of the observation of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), aligning with the global theme: “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”
The sports meet will be inaugurated by Ms. Jiya Rai, a 16-year-old girl with autism spectrum disorder, renowned as the youngest and fastest para-swimmer to conquer the English Channel. The special event will commence tomorrow, that is, on 3rd December 2024 at 10.30am. Adv. Ashish Shelar, MLA,will remain present as the Chief Guest, while Zamir Dhale, Director of the Society for the Empowerment of the Deaf-Blind (SEDB) India, will be the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
The highlights of the event include an ‘Inclusive Walkathon’ to encourage participation and raising awareness about accessibility and inclusion of children with disabilities in fostering their confidence through fun and engaging sports. A ‘Nukkad Natak’ on Indian Sign Language (ISL), will be held. The vibrant street play deals with the importance of learning ISL to empower persons with disabilities and promote their leadership.
This unique initiative aims to highlight the critical role of inclusion in sports and leadership development for children with disabilities, while emphasizing the power of community engagement in building a sustainable and equitable future. This event will champion the cause of inclusion and accessibility on IDPD.
