The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), India’s leading hospitality brand, has marked a significant milestone in its legacy with the unveiling of the Taj Bandstand project, a landmark poised to transform Mumbai’s skyline. The momentous Bhoomi Pujan ceremony, held in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, and Mr. N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, heralds the beginning of what promises to be an iconic chapter in the city’s development.
This new venture is a testament to the unwavering commitment of IHCL to Mumbai, a city where it has been a part of the cultural and social fabric for over a century. Mr. Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director & CEO of IHCL, remarked, “IHCL opened its first hotel, The Taj Mahal Palace, in Bombay in 1903 and has, for over a century, woven itself into the cultural fabric of the city. Taj Bandstand will carry the legacy forward, serving as the torchbearer of the Taj brand for the next century.” The project is designed to be a defining feature of Mumbai’s skyline, symbolizing the city’s spirit, its people, and its growing global prominence.
A little-known detail about the upcoming Taj Bandstand is that the tower is expected to soar to 165 meters in height, making it one of the tallest landmarks in the area. In addition to its 335 luxurious rooms and 85 residences, the development will feature an amphitheater, jogging tracks, and beautifully landscaped parks—all open to the public. These green spaces and recreational areas are specially designed with the local community in mind, particularly the residents of Bandra, who will have access to these vibrant spaces for leisure and outdoor activities.
With this addition, IHCL’s presence in Mumbai will expand to 17 hotels, including 5 under development. The project, which has already received key pre-construction approvals such as IOD and provisional Fire NOC, is expected to begin construction in 2025, with the completion slated for 2029.
The unveiling of Taj Bandstand marks not only a milestone for IHCL but also a new chapter for Mumbai’s rich architectural and cultural landscape. As the city continues to grow and evolve, this new landmark will stand as a beacon of luxury, tradition, and the iconic Taj legacy—shaping the skyline and the future of hospitality for generations to come.
A Visionary Project Driven by Mr. Ratan Tata
The Taj Bandstand project is more than just another addition to IHCL’s portfolio—it is the realization of a vision that was very close to the heart of Mr. Ratan Tata. The former Chairman of Tata Sons was deeply committed to ensuring that this ambitious project came to fruition. Over the last few years, Mr. Tata had shown a personal interest in the plans for Taj Bandstand, eagerly seeking updates on its progress. His vision for the project is evident in its scale and scope, aiming to be a monumental addition to Mumbai’s skyline while enriching the city’s urban landscape.
This thoughtful integration of public spaces alongside the luxury development reflects Mr. Tata’s longstanding commitment to making sure that the development contributes positively to both the city’s landscape and its people’s lives. The Taj Bandstand project, under Mr. Tata’s visionary leadership, will undoubtedly become an iconic symbol of Mumbai’s future, while paying tribute to the city’s rich heritage
