Moderated by Anisha Lalvani, author of Girls Who Stray, the panel features Mehak Jamal, a filmmaker and writer from Kashmir whose debut non-fiction Loal Kashmir brings powerful regional stories to light; Nayanthara Violet Alva, a creative producer and author of Liberal Hearts, which humorously tackles privilege and identity in elite academia; and Neha Dixit, an award-winning journalist whose book The Many Lives of Syeda X delves into an ordinary woman’s journey through India’s socio-political landscape. Milaaya Art Gallery, renowned for its innovative approach to fibre-based art, collaborates with Shalini Passi’s MASH to present Terra and Metamorphosis, two groundbreaking exhibitions running from March 7 to April 30, 2025. This unique partnership brings together two distinct curatorial visions, combining fibre art, cultural heritage, and contemporary experiences. The exhibition features works from acclaimed artists such as Nikhil Chopra, Ranbir Kaleka, Manjunath Kamath, Shaurya Kumar, Danielle and Sharmishta, Viraj Mithani, Sakib Afridi, and Priyantha Udagedara, who engage with themes of history, memory, and transformation.
Terra and Metamorphosis create a dynamic conversation between Milaaya Art Gallery’s exploration of earth’s narratives through embroidery and MASH’s focus on personal and cultural transformation. Through this collection, the artists use embroidery to transcend geographical boundaries, blending global influences with deep South Asian traditions. This cross-cultural dialogue not only redefines the medium of fibre art but also bridges Eastern and Western artistic expressions.
