Mumbai’s badminton circuit witnessed an exciting showcase of talent and club rivalry as the prestigious GMBA badminton tournament, promoted by Badminton Gurukul and hosted at Willingdon Sports Club, concluded with thrilling finals across divisions.
In the headline event — the Motiram Cup Elite Division — Chembur Gymkhana emerged as champions after delivering a commanding 2-0 victory over Bombay Gymkhana. The triumph marked a significant achievement for Chembur Gymkhana, whose players showcased consistency, sharp court movement, and strong teamwork throughout the competition.
The Plate Division title of the Motiram Cup was clinched by Juhu Gymkhana, who battled past BKLP ‘B’ team with a close 2-1 win in an intense final encounter.
Chembur Gymkhana, however, narrowly missed out on completing a memorable double. Their junior side, which had entered the Kanji Cup final with an unbeaten run, could not sustain the momentum against Cricket Club of India (CCI). The CCI squad produced a dominant performance to secure a 3-1 victory and lift the Kanji Cup title.
In the women’s category, Khar Gymkhana captured the Ullal Cup after edging past Cricket Club of India ‘A’ team 2-1 in a tightly contested final.
The tournament once again highlighted Mumbai’s vibrant badminton culture, bringing together some of the city’s leading gymkhanas and emerging talent under one competitive platform.
