One of the most defining landmarks of Mumbai’s cityscape, The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, flagship of The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) and a defining city structure, turns 115 this December.
Founded by Jamsetji Tata in the year 1903, ‘The Taj’ is credited as India’s first luxury hospitality landmark which could place it amongst the greatest cities of the world. Last weekend the Taj Mahal Palace celebrated her 115th anniversary with the who’s who of the city for a charitable evening.
Hosted by Taljinder Singh, the area director of the group’s properties and the Palace’s current GM, in presence of Puneet Chhatwal, MD and CEO of Indian Hotels, the evening opened with a champagne reception and an art preview, followed by a sit-down dinner and live auction of canvasses donated by the Delhi Art Gallery (DAG), and ended with a post-dinner chocolate and cognac repast.
As a part of their anniversary celebrations, a special stay package has been created to celebrate the journey of the hotel. From exploring the city before dawn to a leisurely champagne walk around the hotel; to a sunset cruise that ends with a Maharaja high-tea, the offer allows guests to experience palace life.
A Black Tie Charity Ball featuring a red carpet, a showing of vintage automobiles, a showering of flower petals, a band playing live jazz, ballroom dancing and the finest, by way of a five-course meal.
The complete proceeds of the art auction were donated to the Taj Public Service Welfare Trust (TPSWT). Founded in the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, the objective of the Trust is to extend assistance to victims of terror, natural disasters, members of the armed forces and other services who demonstrate bravery in their line of work, and their family.

The Taj Mahal Palace also launched a signature collection of 100 Limited Edition 18-karat gold commemorative timepieces by Nebula.
