Jazz legend Louiz Banks inaugurated India’s first-ever Music Concert Photography Exhibition in Mumbai on November 16, 2024, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre. The exhibition, curated by music journalist Verus Ferreira, featured 64 concert photos taken over 11 years (2013-2024), showcasing both international and Indian artists.
Ferreira explained, “My project touches a topic that concerns music, connected physically and emotionally. My pictures tell a story to which people can relate and identify with.” The exhibition displayed images of artists like The Vengaboys, Steve Vai, Slash, Anoushka Shankar, Usha Uthup, and Louiz Banks.
Banks praised Ferreira’s work, saying, “It is great to see how you have managed to capture so many amazing artists in action. Great photographs. I really love your work.”
Ferreira emphasized the importance of music concert photography, stating, “The purpose of having this exhibition is to bring out the fun of a concert, the power of music, and how artists do what they love best, seen through the eye of the photographer.”
The exhibition ran until November 22, 2024, and was supported by Ambit Developers and Realtors. Ferreira thanked everyone who helped bring the project to life, including Rajendra Sharma and Sharad from Ambit Developers, as well as his long-time friend Nirav Mehta.
The event concluded on a high note, with great conversation, music, and revelry. A few musicians joined in and took to the stage for an impromptu sing-along session, adding to the lively atmosphere. Guests enjoyed the casual musical exchange, celebrating the joy of music and photography before the evening wrapped up with light refreshments.
