Finally, some respite to multiplex visitors, the huge dent into your pockets by the exorbitant food and beverage prices have been reduced. Effective August 1, 2018 movie-goers will be allowed to carry food inside the theatres.
Also, the prices of the food and beverages available inside the theatre will be reduced as per market price. This was declared by Maharashtra Food Supplies Minister Ravindra Chavan at the ongoing Assembly session.
He also reinstates that strict action will be taken against theatres’ employees and owners if people were not allowed to carry outside food. He said the state government would formulate a policy for ascertaining what action would be taken against errant multiplexes. He stated that there couldn’t be different price tags on the same food product sold at multiplexes and outside.
This decision comes in soon after a video of the MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) workers had stormed a movie theatre and confronted the theatre staff about the F&B prices.
Earlier this month, the Bombay High Court refused to grant an urgent hearing to the Multiplexes Owners Association which had approached it over the recent attacks on multiplexes by the members of a political party.
The theatre owners association were refused any assistance by the court and were redirected to approach the police for any untoward case of violence.
