Ayodhya’s Rasik Peethadhishwar Mahant Janmejay Sharan, along with Namo Namo Sangathan President Arun Kumar Sharma, presided over the installation of the world’s tallest eco-friendly Ganpati idol, “Boomerang Ka Raja,” at Chandivali in Andheri East.
Standing at an impressive height of 26.1 feet, this eco-friendly Ganesh idol has made history by setting a world record, elevating the Ganpati festival in Andheri East to new heights. Officially certified by the World Book of Records, this unique idol, displayed at the Boomerang Ka Raja pandal, is recognized as the world’s tallest eco-friendly Ganpati idol.
The idol weighs 300 kilograms and was crafted using 3.5 lakh sheets of paper, 22 kilograms of glue, and 45 kilograms of metal, making it fully recyclable. Designed by Rajesh Digambar Mayekar, who has been renowned for creating eco-friendly Ganpati idols since 2007, the structure reflects a commitment to environmental sustainability.
Bollywood actress Ekta Jain graced the event, welcoming Ganpati Bappa with drum beats, enhancing the festive spirit.
For the past decade, Arun Kumar Sharma has played a pivotal role in organizing Ganpati festivals, but his real innovation came during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amidst the global crisis, Sharma recognized the increasing need for sustainable practices and pioneered the concept of eco-friendly Ganpati idols. “This is not just about the size but about inspiring a greener future,” he emphasized, highlighting that the shift toward sustainable materials is not merely a trend but a commitment to environmental responsibility. By creating idols from biodegradable materials, Sharma aims to reduce the harmful effects of the traditional plaster-of-paris idols on water bodies and soil. His initiative is a call for communities to rethink their traditions and align them with the urgency of protecting the environment for future generations.
The visarjan (immersion) ceremony is scheduled for 17th September at the Boomerang building. The entire process, lasting around 20 minutes, will involve submerging the idol in water, after which the materials will be responsibly recycled. This initiative highlights the dedication to a sustainable and environmentally conscious celebration.
Boomerang Ka Raja stands as a symbol of innovation, sustainability, and devotion, setting a new benchmark for future Ganpati celebrations
