Akshay Kumar’s much-anticipated action-adventure film, Ram Setu, had a grand Diwali release in theatres yesterday. The film seemed to open to rant reviews by critic, media and the audience alike, and the opening seems to say it all as the film rakes in ₹ 15.25 cr on its first day.
The Abhishek Sharma directorial is the 2nd highest opener for a Hindi film in 2022. Also, the phenomenal box office collections make for the biggest opening of any of Akshay’s films for this year.
This family entertainer also stars popular actors as Satyadev, Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha who have done exceptionally well for the film, with the evening and night shows being sold out at most places. As family audiences are loving this mix of entertainment along with awareness, it is expected to witness further growth in days ahead.
The story of Ram Setu revolves around an atheist archaeologist turned believer, Dr. Aryan Kulshrestha (Akshay Kumar), who must race against time to prove the true existence of the legendary Ram Setu before evil forces destroy the pillar of India’s heritage.
For the director of the film Abhishek Sharma, the film was born from a single concern, he explains. “Through their imaging, NASA [National Aeronautics and Space Administration] showed that there is a bridge that exists. But no in-depth expedition has ever been commissioned underwater on Ram Setu, through the movie, I wanted to explore the subject further. To me “Ram Setu, the film, is a convergence of science, history, geography, and the Ramayana. In the film, we have shown — in a way that it appeals to the audience — how carbon dating is done on rocks and fossils under the sea.”
13-year-old Jeehan Bajaj says ” I love action-adventure films, and this one sure doesn’t disappoint. I watched the film with my family and absolutely loved the blend of Hindu mythology (which is an eye-opener), scientific studies, and the social-political drama this film offers, I am definitely coming back with my friends to watch it again.”
Ram Setu is presented by Prime Video in association with Cape of Good Films and Lyca Productions and is an Abundantia Entertainment Production. The film is produced by Aruna Bhatia (Cape of Good Films), Vikram Malhotra (Abundantia Entertainment), Subaskaran, Mahaveer Jain, and Aashish Singh (Lyca Productions) and Prime Video with Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi as the Creative Producer. Ram Setu is distributed worldwide in theatres by Zee Studios.
