One name. One legend. One unforgettable night at the movies. My journey with #MichaelJackson — the King of Pop, the one-of-a-kind, the unfiltered, pure phenomenon —has always been rooted in pure, unadulterated fandom. So when I heard that the biopic #Michael was coming, and better yet, that I’d scored an invite to a special screening at Mumbai’s spectacular IMAX Wadala (Miraj Cinemas), I knew my calendar for that day was officially booked.
The entire day was spent in sacred preparation. No distractions. Just clearing the agenda for an evening of pure music, nostalgia, and fan moment galore. Revisiting his songs — Memories brought to life of his visit to India by the now-legendary Wizcraft Entertainment founding trio Sabbas Joseph, Andre Timmins, and Viraf Sarkari. The concerts, the crowds, the magic of Michael on Indian soil. The adrenaline was already pumping before I even reached the theatre.

Walking into Miraj IMAX Wadala, the energy was electric. Friends and colleagues from the influencer circuit, Mumbai’s who’s who, and media friends had all gathered, buzzing with speculation about what the film could possibly deliver. But honestly? Nothing — nothing — could take away that rush of adrenaline as the lights dimmed and the opening scene hit the screen.
…And Then the Screen Lit Up!
The film opens with a hauntingly iconic shot—the silhouette of #MichaelJackson, the man himself—before whisking us back to where it all began. Seeing a young Michael (portrayed brilliantly as a 10-year-old) performing with his brother as the famed Jackson 5 was a poignant experience. We see his father, Joe Jackson, pushing and belting little Michael for not listening — a sad, haunting peek into the early days of a boy. We witness his evolution from a young aspiring artist to realizing his full potential and breaking away from the cocoon of his family. The film reveals sides of Michael that we may have known but were often swept under the carpet: what he truly did for the music industry, his relentless innovation, and how he helped discover the joy of music and dancing in a combination that was — and remains — only true to Michael who became the biggest entertainer the world has ever known.
The Details That Make Michael — Michael
I’m still reeling from the iconic moments — the performances of ‘Bad’, ‘Beat It’, ‘Thriller’, and ‘Human Nature’ — but what truly stayed with me were the intimate details of his personality that the film captures so beautifully:
– The lock of curly hair — sometimes framing his face in a tight cloud, sometimes falling over his eyes
– The signature ponytail
– The single white glove — because some icons need no explanation
– The red jacket — zipped halfway, defying everyone who ever called him “just a kid”
– The pinched nose (which underwent surgery)
– The gyrating pelvic moves
– The sleight of hand
– The feet apart or up on his toes
– The crescendo moonwalk — weightless, impossible, and yet somehow perfectly grounded
– The high-pitched “Hoo!” — that battle cry that launched a thousand imitations
– The “Shamone!” — not just a word, but a state of mind
– The 45-degree lean — anti-gravity defiance of physics that left audiences convinced he was flying
Michael is Michael for what he brings to the world — and this film brings all of that to life.

Final Verdict: 5/5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Without Hesitation
As we gathered post-screening to discuss our personal experiences, the consensus was clear: Awe.
While critics might look for things to dissect, as a fan, I don’t believe anyone leaving that theater could—or should—overly criticize this journey. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, starring Jaafar Jackson (Michael’s own nephew) in his film debut, and backed by the legendary producer Graham King — this film is a cinematic event that demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible.
The movie releases in theatres on April 24. Catch a glimpse of the trailer here…
