- Title of the Film: Sarfira
- Director: Sudha Kongara
- Main Cast: Akshay Kumar, Radhika Madan, Paresh Rawal

Sarfira featuring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, attempts to narrate the inspiring story of Veer Mhatre, a former Air Force officer determined to revolutionize air travel for the underprivileged. The film is a remake of the 2020 tamil film Soorarai Pottru, which draws inspiration from Captain G R Gopinath’s pioneering efforts in the aviation industry and his memoir ‘Simply Fly : A Deccan Odyssey’. Sudha Kongara has directed both the films in Tamil and Hindi.
The film narrative unfolds against the vibrant and some humble backdrop in Maharashtra, where Veer’s entrepreneurial aspirations clash with the established dominance of Paresh Goswami (played by Paresh Rawal) and his Jaz Airlines. This sets the stage for a compelling battle of ideologies and ambitions, driving the central conflict of the film.
Performance :
Akshay Kumar delivers a sincere portrayal of Veer Mhatre, capturing both his determination and vulnerability as he navigates through challenges. His performance anchors the film, supported by Radhika Madan who brings warmth to her role as Rani, a fiesty lady who eventually is wooed by Veer’s larger than life dreams. And like her own aspirations, she unveils a remarkable perception on the husband-wife role, adding a new depth to her role as Akshay’s wife. Seema Biswas (who plays Veer’s mother) is the go between the father and son and finds herself torn apart in the conflict of action between them.
While the film’s first half struggles with pacing issues and occasional lapses in cultural authenticity in its portrayal of Marathi traditions, the second half gains momentum with intensified conflicts and emotional depth. The screenplay, while attempting to balance personal and professional narratives, occasionally loses focus but manages to convey the essence of Veer’s struggle and vision.
Technically, “Sarfira” falls short in its musical sequences and production quality, failing to significantly elevate the storytelling experience. However, it succeeds in delivering an emotional climax that resonates with the audience, offering a heartfelt tribute to the spirit of entrepreneurship and determination embodied by its protagonist.
Overall, Sarfira benefits from Akshay Kumar’s earnest performance and the film’s resonant message about pursuing one’s dreams against all odds. Despite its flaws in execution, it manages to deliver a satisfying cinematic experience that celebrates the spirit of innovation and perseverance.
